An alternative look at the great outdoors...
Lying in the tent in the morning I didn't like the sound of the rain on the fly so had a lay in finally getting away at 7:20, but instead of following the usual trade route, Muckle Cairn, Loch Lee to Tarfside, I decided to go a different way. I set off over Gowan Knowe to Easter Balloch, at 834 mt I don't know why it is not a Corbett as there is nothing higher for miles around.
I descended to the old ruin in the Water of Unich stopping only for tea and then up the track to Cairn Lick. From there is was an easy walk across to Wester Skuiley and down into the North Grain and Glen Effock and then pitching the tent in order to avoid the rush into Tarfside and the associated crowds. I intend to go into Tarfside tomorrow morning to do a bit of shopping before heading for Mount Battock. I got rained this morning after my tea break but the sun came out and from ten until I pitched camp I walked in sunshine with a cooling breeze. I have not seen a soul since leaving the bothy this morning and I am surprised Glen Effock is so quiet as it makes such a good route over to Tarfside from the Spittal and Clova.
