Welcome to Doodlecat - where we enjoy the great outdoors and gather a range of news and views. Much of the content
is courtesy of the generous contributions from the splendid people who participate in the annual TGO Challenge, so there is
a wealth of outdoor experience here, especially if you like walking in Scotland - but we try to range worldwide.
The home page is where we post the latest news and views from the Doodlecat team. You can have your say
too! Just click on the 'comments' link on any of the posts - or if you have a story or photogallery that you think we'd like, then
let us know. Random Doodles and the
Image Gallery welcome guest contributions, as well as the perennial favourite, the
TGO Challenge pages
The blogroll on the right displays ten links to other sites that you might like to try out - there are a lot more, and the list will change each time
you visit or 'refresh' the page.
Enjoy your stay.
The 4000ft route.

Mike Daniels tells the story of the first TGO (or, to be wholly accurate, Ultimate) Challenge to successfully incorporate all of the 4000ft mountains. And not in the kindest of weather - those ice axes aren't just for show!
Many thanks to Mike for sharing his experiences of the 1987 challenge, when he made this pioneering crossing with the late Iain Matheson. You'll find it in the TGO Challenge section, but why not go straight to it by
clicking here.

Well, Mick.
What can I say?
I am totally in awe of the pair of you. Wonderfully written in a beautiful understated style. Just looking at the maps and working out the days, and carrying the equipment you needed - well - its a fantastaic achievement.
Food for thought,
Thank you
Alan

Sorry - messed up my comment there, so I deleted it. I'll start again....
But what a tough trip, though - I was exhausted by the time you got to the A9.
Great report.
I'm off for a little rest now....
Amazing story. What an achievement getting across and with that weight going over the 4,000'ers.
Thanks for sharing.
Wow! This is truly inspiring stuff. What an utterly fantastic achievement, from the climbing of the 4000 feet peaks to the pushing on to Montrose on the last day, when already exhausted. Thank you very much indeed for writing it up. I loved the photos too, showing the heavy kit you had to carry. Amazing :)
